The Piedmontese Excellence in Zurich for the 7th edition of the Swiss stage of the Gambero Rosso.

I Vini del Piemonte will again take part in the Zurich leg of the tour organized by Gambero Rosso.

Thanks to the partnership signed with Gambero Rosso, I Vini del Piemonte will take part as a guest region in the Zurich stage in January 2027, for the 7th edition.

Along with the Gambero Rosso wineries, industry professionals will be able to meet a group of producers from the I Vini del Piemonte promotion consortium, who will present a range of Piedmontese wines. Under the important agreement, 10 I Vini del Piemonte wineries will be able to participate in this important initiative, even if they are not present at the guide.

Vini del Piemonte will enjoy a dedicated space, with individual stations for each producer, within the Walk Around Tasting aimed at Ho.Re.Ca. operators, importers, sommeliers, and journalists.

Zurich is one of the most challenging and competitive cities for the wine market, but also among the most strategic, solid and diversified for Piedmontese wine and Italian wines occupy a leading position in the market. I Vini del Piemonte has therefore chosen to join forces with Gambero Rosso again, with the aim of creating an effective initiative to ensure maximum visibility for its member producers in this strategic market.

Why Switzerland?

Despite a recent overall contraction in imports, the Swiss market confirms itself as a strategic hub where Italy is consolidating its leadership. In fact, it maintains absolute primacy in volumes and in the still wine segment, while also closing the value gap with its main international competitors.

In this difficult but mature and high-spending context, Swiss demand is clearly shifting towards quality, sustainability, and clear territorial identity, moving away from large commercial volumes. This evolution particularly rewards the Piedmontese offering, which represents a stable base for the market by providing versatility for daily consumption and exclusivity for high-end dining.

In the premium segment, the consolidated success of great aging reds like Nebbiolo is confirmed: Switzerland historically ranks among the top six global markets that, together, absorb over 60% of the export of Piedmontese PDO red wines.

Today, these are joined by a growing demand for rare and long-lived indigenous grape varieties. Proof of this is the Derthona Timorasso, whose exports to Switzerland grew by 9% between 2023 and 2024, confirming a market that is increasingly seeking niche labels that have evolved significantly over time.
