A Glass of Italy – I Vini del Piemonte Corner in Dublin

Piedmont Wines is ready to return to Ireland with a corner dedicated to its member companies during the A Glass of Italy event to be held on August 31, 2026

With a strategic focus on the Irish market and a commitment to providing our member wineries with targeted opportunities, I Vini del Piemonte will host a dedicated corner at the event. This initiative continues the consortium’s well-established presence in Ireland, building on the success of the “Barolo & Friends” event held in January 2026 and its previous editions in Dublin. Participation is limited to six consortium wineries, each receiving a dedicated station for the walk-around tasting, as well as the opportunity to participate in the masterclasses.

Throughout the day, producers from across Italy will have the chance to showcase their estates and present their wines during the walk-around tasting. This session is specifically tailored to Irish industry professionals, including importers, distributors, restaurateurs, and sommeliers. The stars of the show will be the wines themselves and the stories that make them unique, told directly by the producers and representatives who know them best.

The event is open to all Italian wineries, whether they are already established in the Irish market or actively seeking an importer. We are targeting a highly selective audience of industry experts, including importers, Ho.Re.Ca. professionals, restaurateurs, sommeliers, journalists, and influencers.

PROGRAM

Throughout the day, technical masterclasses will be held, with each producer having the opportunity to submit one of their wines for consideration. These sessions will be led by professional Irish sommeliers.

  • 1:00 pm – 2:00 pm: Dedicated Masterclass

  • 2:00 pm – 5:00 pm: Walk-around tasting session (exclusive to Irish industry professionals)

Why Dublin? The Importance of the Irish Market

Ireland, and its capital Dublin in particular, is showing an increasing passion for Italy and “Made in Italy” products, especially within the wine sector. These factors make Ireland a highly strategic market for Italian wine.

  • Ireland has a population of approximately 5.3 million people.
  • The country has an average per capita consumption that varies between 29 and 31 litres per year.
  • Total consumption amounts to approximately 1.5-1.6 million hectolitres.
  • Over 99% of the wine consumed in the country is imported.
  • The retail value of the imported wine market is estimated at between EUR 1.3 billion and EUR 1.5 billion.
  • Italy ranks among the country’s main trading partners.
  • In 2024, Italy exported over 300,000 hectoliters of wine to Ireland.
  • The value of Italian exports in 2024 exceeds 120 million euros.
  • With a market share of 20-22%, Italy ranks among the top two countries in terms of exported volume and among the top three in terms of value.
  • The Irish market is completely liberalized and without a state monopoly.
  • The market has a strong presence of large-scale retail trade (GDO), which absorbs 65-70% of sales.
  • White wines currently represent the most marketed category, covering 48% of total consumption.
  • Red wines maintain a solid market share at 44%.
  • The sparkling wine segment has seen significant growth in recent years, confirming itself as the most dynamic category with the greatest potential for development.
