The Value of a Vintage

As producers, you know that the judgment of the vintage is crucial for the narrative, positioning, and longevity of your wines. On October 29th at 5:00 PM, we invite you to join internationally renowned wine journalist Michaela Morris for an essential training session to be held at the Enoteca Regionale del Barolo, promoted by Il Consorzio I Vini del Piemonte in collaboration with the Enoteca Regionale del Barolo. The goal will be to deeply analyze the criteria used to evaluate and communicate the value of a vintage.

Why It’s Important for You

Decanter is known for its extensive annual reports, covering key regions globally. Understanding the methodology behind these evaluations is fundamental for producers targeting international markets. This meeting will not focus on individual wine scores, but on the complete climatic and stylistic framework that defines the value of a vintage in relation to various Piedmontese denominations.

Key Points of the Meeting

Defining Quality: We will delve into the parameters that elevate a vintage from “good” to “exceptional” or classify it as “mediocre” in the eyes of international critics.

Systemic Evaluation: You will learn the structured approach to tasting and evaluating a vintage as a whole, a method that goes beyond simply assigning a score to a single label.

Focus on the Territory: We will use a comparative tasting of three different Nebbioli from Langa denominations, previously awarded in past editions, as a practical example. This sensory analysis will serve as a springboard for decoding the vintage evaluation process.
