Strengthening the twinning between Vini del Piemonte and Slow Food Switzerland

The Consortium i Vini del Piemonte has renewed the partnership with Slow Food Switzerland during the third edition of the Slow Food Market.

With some 10,000 visitors the Slow Food Market of Zurich has set the record for number of attendees to the great satisfaction of the 200 exhibitors who took part in the event, among which were 12 producers of the Consortium “i Vini del Piemonte” who, thanks to the twinning made with Slow Food Switzerland, had the possibility to use a space called “Piazza Piemonte”, one of the most visible stalls of the entire event.

At its third edition, the event is a sort of “Salone del Gusto”, organized by Slow Food Switzerland in cooperation with the renowned supermarket chain Coop Switzerland, dedicated to gourmets and the many wine enthusiasts based in Switzerland who, from 8th to 10th November 2013, had the opportunity to “live an adventure in the world of true and good flavors” .

Besides being an amazing promotional occasion, the Slow Food Market of Zurich represents an important business opportunity: during the entire event, in fact, it was possible to sell products directly to the final consumers and 90% of the visitors left the fair with shopping bags full of goods!

The Piedmontese producers presented Barolo and the other great wines, matched with some of the bestfood productions proposed by the partner companies, to a public made up of demanding enthusiasts, as per the Slow Food tradition, beside a huge number of restaurateurs and sector operators interested in top quality wines.

There were many side events, which also allowed the event to present to the Swiss operators the tourist attractions that Piedmont can offer.

Among the appointments organized by the Consortium “i Vini del Piemonte”, great appreciation was received by the Wine Tasting Experience® led by Maurizio Rosso from the winehouse Gigi Rosso: a guided tasting which offered the winelovers, through the tale of an expert, to discover everything about the wine they were tasting.

A great feedback was also obtained by the two Laboratories of Taste: the first was focused on the presentation of Piedmontese wines matched with the most well-known cheeses coming from the Swiss Slow Food presidia; in the second, some Piedmontese wines were combined with the tasting of products coming from other international Slow Food presidia. Both the laboratories were led by Maurizio Rosso for the part related to wines and Giuseppe Domeniconi, historic leader of Slow Food Switzerland, for the presentation of the Presidia.

Piedmont was also honoured with an official presentation in the quality of “2013 Guest Region” during the dinner organized to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Slow Food Switzerland, with tastings of Piedmontese wines and top quality food products, and dedicated to selected guests (journalists, exhibitors, authorities, etc.).

But the most important moment for our Consortium was the Wine dinner, which took place on Thursday 7thNovember at the restaurant La Tavola, with Nicola Mattana, “Ambassador of the Wines of Piedmont in Switzerland”, who introduced and described the wines of our producers, and the Piedmontese chef Danilo Lorusso from the restaurant La Crota of Roddi who enchanted the guests with his refined cuisine. The dinner was the occasion to seal the agreement between the Consortium “i Vini del Piemonte” and the restaurant La Tavola, which will become one of the “restaurant’s friends of Piedmont”.
