Italian Wine and Gourmet Days in Stoccolma

Following the great success achieved in Sweden by our producers, the Consortium “i Vini del Piemonte” intends to intensify its presence in this Scandinavian country.

Once more, extremely positive news for Piedmontese wines arrives from Scandinavia: at the 12th edition of the Italian Wine and Gourmet Days, which took place in Stockholm on 23rd and 25th November 2013, the Swedish public showed an extraordinary enthusiasm for the Consortium “i Vini del Piemonte”, the only one who physically brought 15 producers, who could present their own wines and explain everything that goes into a bottle of Barolo, Barbera, Gavi or Ruché to some 900 wine lovers and more than 350 professionals of the sector who took part in the event.

The presence of the wine growers and producers was a decisive factor: the wine enthusiasts who joined the sessions open to the public on Saturday 23rd November remained a long time in the area called “Piazza Piemonte” to chat, showing great interest towards the culture of wine and confirming one more time the appeal that the Italian lifestyle, with its traditional products and in particular wine, has on the northern European consumers. In particular, the Piedmontese red wines prove again to be the most beloved by the Swedish wine lovers, whose number is more and more growing: it is by no chance, in fact, that, according to several statistics, the wines of Piedmont are in first place for number of sales, more than any other Italian region.

On Monday 25th November, during the workshop dedicated to professionals, the producers had the opportunity to meet both the representatives of the government who control the monopoly (which regulates the sales to private firms) and the companies and the importers who manage distribution to restaurants and hotels and the sales in the Ho.Re.Ca system, which represents the second channel of distribution of alcoholic beverages in the country.

Also this year, the setting of the event organized by the Nordic Wine Institute was the Grand Hotel of Stockholm, one of the most prestigious hotels in the world located on the seafront of the city, in a panoramic position, just right in front of the Royal Palace.

Great satisfaction from the Director of “i Vini del Piemonte” Daniele Manzone who explained how the consortium, exactly because of the great interest shown by the Swedish public towards Piedmont and the culture of wine, aims at intensifying the actions in this country: «In a short time, we would like to establish a Wine Club dedicated to Barolo: here in Sweden, there is a great number of Wine Clubs which are very active, and very influential, so we think that this is the best move to do to answer the huge desire to know the Piedmontese wine in all its aspects. Moreover – he continues –, we want to nominate one “Ambassador of the Wines of Piedmont in Sweden”, as we already did for Switzerland, Poland, Hong Kong and Denmark, in order to start a project we care a lot about: the “School of wine of Piedmont” in Stockholm and soon we will organize monthly events dedicated to knowing and tasting of our great wines».
